One Day, 2024: One Day is a miniseries based on the novel (2009) and movie (2011) of the same name, both written by author David Nicholls. Starring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod, this show tells the story of protagonists Emma and Dexter. We follow them on the same day over the course of twenty years after they meet at university graduation and spend the night together. Both touching and heartbreaking, One Day is a must watch for hopeless romantics like myself. It provides a refreshing take on the romance genre by portraying a slow-burn love story that will keep you hooked until the very end. You can now stream One Day on Netflix.
Killers of the Flower Moon, 2023: Written, directed, and produced by the prolific Martin Scorsese (and others), Killers of the Flower Moon portrays the horrific Osage Indian murders that occurred during the 1920’s. When oil is discovered on Osage Land, a string of murders ensues until an FBI agent travels to Oklahoma to investigate and bring closure to the community. I was daunted to go into watching this film due to the lengthy run time and intense subject matter, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. First of all, Scorsese can do no wrong, and second, the casting sold me. Stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert DeNiro deliver truly captivating performances that sell such an important story that has been hidden away in history. With critical acclaim, Killers of the Flower Moon has been nominated for a slew of awards, including Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Additionally, Gladstone has made history by being the first Native American nominated for Best Actress. I gave this film 4.5 out of 5 stars on Letterboxd (https://letterboxd.com/anatress/). You can now stream Killers of the Flower Moon on Apple TV.
Music:
There’s too much to write about individually, but here is an accumulation of music that I’ve been listening to this February! Recently, I’ve found myself in quite a folksy era, turning to artists like Sierra Ferrell, the Crowe Boys, and many others across other genres. There is a ton of new music coming out soon that I’ve been patiently waiting for, such as Lizzy McAlpine’s upcoming album Older, so stay tuned for more recommendations coming next month.

Guest Film Spotlight - Chris Masciarelli
Hey! I’m Chris Masciarelli, and I’m a self-made cinephile! I co-host a podcast about movies called Snubs, where we talk about movies snubbed by the Oscars (available wherever you get your podcasts), and I simply love movies. Good ones, bad ones, okay ones—I love them all. I go out of my way to try and watch a movie every day, and I love it! I’m currently wrapping up a Steve Carrell binge, with a Jeff Goldblum binge coming up next!
